Open Source / Free Software Tools

The benefits and philosophy of open source software are beyond the scope of explanation here, many have done it better, and you should look to them for more information.

We have tried to provide any files on the site in as universal and convenient of file formats as possible, while staying away from those formats owned by people who we don't agree with.
Incase you download one of our files and don't know what to do with it, here is some software you can download that will allow you to handle the files:
  • .psd: While this format is commonly used for Adobe Photoshop, you can also open these files with The GIMP.
    • available for MacOSX, Windows, and GNU/Linux

  • .odt, .ods (text and spreadsheets): OASIS OpenDoucment Format is supported by several applications including OpenOffice.
    • available for MacOSX/X11, Windows, GNU/Linux, Solaris.
    • and NeoOffice for MacOSX (recomended)

  • .pdf: Adobe Acrobat Reader is the standard for most people, but The GIMP (see above) also has plugins for this.

  • .html: This is just the web right? Well, you can look at it how it was intended to be seen, with a standards compliant browser called Firefox, Opera, or Camino.
